This basket made of strings of the water hyacinth, is made by women in and around Yogyakarta in Indonesia. The stems of the water hyacinth are dried and then braided by hand. The braiding of the dried stems keeps an old craft alive. In addition, this work provides a wealth of income for many women, enabling them to provide their living independently. Part of the profits are spent on trainings for young women in developing countries. This product was created because of a collaboration with designer Toya Verberne.
Because the baskets are made by hand, charming imperfections can occur. It is possible that that the product differs slightly from the picture.
